Hi All,

I have 2 fully functional miniscope setups, but I have an issue in preventing the connection to go bad (freeze followed by red screen) after 10-100 seconds into imaging. All the DAQ light are on, led is controllable during the imaging period, and the top red light is shining bright. I haven't epoxied any of the connection as of yet, do you think this might be the problem? Does anybody perhaps have any other tips on increasing the stability of the connection to maintain longer imaging periods?

Thanks!

Jesper

Hi Jesper,

The source of this problem is likely due to one of two things:

  • Are you running on a Windows 8 PC? We have experienced this exact problem on a couple Windows 8 PC which were fixed by either switching computers or upgrading to Windows 10.
  • The coax cable or cable connection(s) are unstable. You can check this by seeing if the system disconnects while shaking the cable and putting medium strain on the ends of the cable.

If the system disconnects and you get the red screen when the scope and coax cable are not moving at all, it is likely a problem with your PC.

Thanks Daniel,

We are running on Windows 10. Do you think it might help if we epoxy the COAX-SMA connection? I have the feeling that a disconnection is more prone when I wiggle that end of the COAX cable compared to the miniscope end.

If the disconnection is more prone when wiggling the cable then I would suggest resoldering the connections then epoxying it. If the soldering was done correctly, even wiggling the cable wouldn't disconnect the video stream so make sure the solder joints are solid and form a good bond.
